Witnesses hear explosion at Sherwood Park community centre fire.
Sherwood Park, AB, November 8th, 2018 - On the evening of Tuesday, November 6th, Sherwood Park RCMP instructed the Bedford Village Retirement Community in Centre in the Park to evacuate immediately due to an incident in the area. The Bedford residents were moved to St. Teresa School, North of Bedford. The primary goal of Christenson Communities (CCL) was the safety, security and wellbeing of all residents, and everyone was well looked after during the ordeal. Several hours later, authorities had given the okay for residents to return to their homes. At that time, any residents that had stayed with families or friends were able to return to Bedford.
The evacuation process went without incident. Christenson Communities is extremely proud of the entire Bedford Village staff for their exceptional performance during this worrisome and unexpected situation. Christenson would also like to thank the numerous CCL staff from other locations that came out to assist.
Our deepest appreciation goes out to the Elk Island School District for their gracious assistance – opening up the doors to St. Teresa School, helping to keep all residents comfortable and staying into the morning to ensure all residents were safely returned to their homes. Thank you to the First Responders who kept everyone safe and updated on the situation. And thank you to those residents of Strathcona County who came to St. Teresa to help hand out food and water or provide rides to those residents staying with family and friends. Everyone involved made the evening run smoothly. It was wonderful to see such support for the community.
